FRIDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING: After a couple of hours of R&R and lunch back at the campground, we packed dinner and hiking gear and headed into Arches National Park for our Delicate Arch Sunset hike! Hands down, this was the highlight of the weekend. We were joined by a hundred or so sunset worshipping tourists and photographers. There we enjoyed dinner, waited for sunset, and hiked back by the light of the full moon.
On the way out of the park, we stopped at the Balanced Rock and enjoyed an incredible moonlit scene, hoping to get some spectacular low light photos. Unfortunately, as you can see from the photos below, my camera's not really right for that kind of thing, so the pictures didn't really turn out, but the experience was worth the detour nonetheless!!
Lacey and Ron left the campsite late at night to take a near- full moon hike up on the rock cliffs above the campground. To go tell creepy stories. But they ended up rescuing a carload of mountain bikers in a Volkswagon who were stuck in the sand at the campground. They were too tired to take their hike by that time. This is the second time we've towed somebody out of the deep sand patch on the access road to that campground, I guess the sign that says "4wd recommended" doesn't deter as many passenger cars as it probably should!
