Moab Pix - 3 Weeks Late!

Well, we had a great time in Moab. A lot of you anti- committers flaked out on us this year more than usual. Despite committments for potential record attendance, this year we ended up with a total of 13 "attendees" and logged 49 "trail seats occupied," down from last years participation by 10 and 13 respectively. Don't worry, we still had a ton fun and were able to do a lot of things that we normally aren't able to pull off because there were less people to please.

Anyhow, on to the trip report and pix!!

THURSDAY: Ryan and Sarah's family and ours arrived late evening on Thursday, we had a harder time than normal finding a campsite, but were able to get what we needed up in the B loop of the Sand Flats Recreation Area. We set up in the dark and most everyone pretty much went straight to bed.

FRIDAY MORNING: We secured one more campsite (for Friday's arrivals) then headed off. We hit McDonald's for breakfast where we were hoping to meet some friends from the Utah 4x4 Club, they never materialized and we were on our way to the Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners trails. Along the way we stopped at the "Birthing Rock" (a millenia old petroglyph panel that includes a scene of a human birth and other baby related ancient rock art). The mothers in the group resisted my efforts to stage a photograph of them recreating the "birthing scene" by dangling their children headfirst as shown in the rock art. A regular group photo was taken instead.

We then continued along the extremely scenic trail until we got to the wind caves. The kids had so much fun playing there that we ended up spending over an hour and had to turn back from there without completing the rest of the trail. Oh well, it gives us something to look forward to in the future!
